Larger tires

i own a 03 ext cab z71 4wd, g80(yay)!! I want to buy new tires since i don't have offroad tires and figure i might as well get some more clearance with bigger tires. from what i've read a 285 will fit well and a 305 will rub, is this rubbing on the plastic guard in the fender that i could just modify? or am i barking up the wrong tree, i'm looking for clearance more than width here so is there another size that you'd all recommend? thnx

Re: Larger tires

285's will fit and should not rub. I have a 3 in. body lift and 305/70's which still rub slightly on the drivers side front when I make left turn. I had to trim the plastic air dam on both sides and the plastic in the back of the wheel wells. I have a long bed and my truck's front end has always been pretty low so the rub is not a surprise. Friend just sold his 2004 Tahoe Z71 with no lift and 285's. He had no rubbing issues when turning, but the tires would rub the wheel wells if he hit a bump to hard, though he had to be speeding and hit the bump hard to cause this.
