1998 TDC Sensor issue...

I have a 1998 honda accord that i just cleaned the EGR valve port, and am now having issues with the codes it is throwing. P1366 & P1361. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor this afternoon along with the plugs and it is still having the problem. It starts fine, runs at an idol fine; then when you start driving it looses acceleration and then dies. I drove it around town hoping it just needed to run for a bit, and it didn't help. As a matter of fact, it continued dying intermitently during the drive... I had to drop it into neutral and turn the key off and back on while cruising down the freeway... I am a little frustrated now...

Does anyone have an idea of what I might have missed???

Do you have the 2.3 or 3.0 L ? And is it a DX , LX, etc. ?

Re: 1998 TDC Sensor issue...

P1361 - TDC Sensor Intermittent Interruption-05

P1366 - TDC Sensor No. 2 Intermittent Interruption-05

Cap and rotor will not hurt but will not help either. You most likely need a new TDC sensor. The location and testing procedures are in Haynes manual on page 6-9.

Good luck,

Sam

Make sure you didn't pinch or damage a wiring harness or get it against a hot surface during the other operation...

Re: 1998 TDC Sensor issue...

After posting this I did a little more research and also found the TDC Sensor to be the possible culprit... The only thing that concerns me is that the code for this wasn't popping up until AFTER I cleaned the EGR port.

I unfortunately misplaced my manual, so I am trying to download one from the website suggested by another another thread... I will check back and update soon..

Thumbs up Re: 1998 TDC Sensor issue...

FIXED!!! I checked the TDC sensor just how the Haynes said to and there wasn't any issues with it... so, we started looking a little more and realized the plug over by the belt that is part of the tdc sensor hadn't been looked at. We unplugged it and found that water had gotten in it when we cleaned the engine... SO... we put some plug cleaner and some sort of conduit of sort, plugged it back and and now my car runs like a champ! YAY!!!

So, the moral of the story - before you start replacing big ticket parts, sleuth it out a little and it might be something as simple as water getting somewhere it isn't supposed to when you clean the engine... oops..

Thanks for everyone's help!!!

I am glad you fixed it!!!

This is another lesson for all of us: if a code points to a sensor, pay close attention not only to the sensor itself but for the surroundings as well...
