Guages

2002 ls v8.

Why do the TAC and speedometer guages jump all the way up when i start the car as if there is/was a loss of power or something? The battery and altenator have been replaced within the last couple of years. i.e the [corrected] speedometer needle travels all the way to 160 then back down to normal. Hope I explained that well.

Re: Guages

You mean the speedometer needle travels all the way to 160, correct? The tachometer doesn't go that high.

Do the gauges function normally otherwise? I don't think my wife's 2002 LS6 does this, but I know it is common for some cars to cycle the guages at startup, probably for self test or self calibration. I don't remember my 2004 doing that either though. Do you know that this didn't occur in the past on your car?

Re: Guages

I'm certainly not the authority on this, but I don't recall reading of anyone else commenting that their gauges do this. I checked my wife's 2002 LS6 when I moved it tonight and her gauges didn't move.

Re: Guages

It is an indication of a weak battery, try putting a charge on it.

The LS electronics will behave badly in this condition.
