Maybe getting a 3g or 4g...

Hey guys, first off I wanna apologize for not being around for a long time to mod things around here. Life got pretty hectic for me cause of a new job and I barely had any time to hop on AF other than to check my PM's and make a post once in a while. But now things are back to regular hours and I hope to be around AF a lot more again...

Anywho...

So I've been driving my Cobalt for the last year and a half now and I'm not very happy with it anymore. It is a very cheaply built car and I'm ready to get something new for a daily driver.

I had been thinking about either a 3g or 4g Eclipse, but I wanted to get some opinions from people who owned and drove them as daily drivers. I would probably keep the Cobalt anyways as a backup vehicle, but I would like something a little nicer to driver... So, what's your thoughts on the 3g's or 4g's?

Hmmm... I'm not sure what direction I should go then. I almost wanted to get a newer Trans Am, but I'm sure that thing won't be any good in the snow and it certainly won't get the fuel mileage I need. (Driving about 60 miles a day for work now ) I thought a newer Eclipse would be a good choice since I enjoyed my 2nd gen so much...

Re: Maybe getting a 3g or 4g...

i also was in the market for a new car and test drove 08 eclipse fully loaded.(my other choices were nissan altima coupe v6 and pontiac g6 but the gxp model) the drive was ok but a lil more rougher than i expected for the increased hps which is 262 the curb wieght of this car has gone up to 3400lbs although the inside was cool lighted up blue reminded me of a cockpit and the seats are MORE sporty!! i didnt like that they made the window into 3 pieces which moves the side mirrors father back so for me it was lil hard to use my side mirrors since i move my seat all the way upand the turning radius is still bad just like the 3rd gen. i parked my 01 eclipse next to it size wise big differance!! to me the 4th gen looks a lil more like the 2nd gen but more modern but im a big fan of the 3rd gen so i decided to keep my car and do some modifications i have to say in 01 when i was looking for a car i ALMOST bought 01 trans am but im glad i made the choice of the eclipse i have no complaints even the gas miles in the v6 i still get about 24mpg from my 20s to my 30s i have enjoyed this car very much and doesnt have the heart to get rid of it. i hope this helps!! i researched the 4th gen vs 3rd BIG time so if you have any questions let me no

FWD sucks.
Go for RWD if you can.

If you don't like your cheaply built car, why are you considering what is essentially just a larger and heavier yet equally cheaply built car?

An eclipse, especially a 3G, is not nicer than your cobalt. Large and more powerful maybe, but not nicer.

Oh... See, this is good to know. I was under the assumption that they weren't built as cheap... Hmm... That kinda makes me disappointed with Mitsu now. My 2g was pretty solid aside from the fact that its a DSM and breaks all the time. lol

Re: Maybe getting a 3g or 4g...

the 4th gen eclipse is bigger than the 3rd gen. the check out the specs on these cars the 3rd gen is actually smaller than your cobalt why not take a test drive in both generations and c if you like them better than what you have now. if you like the 2nd gen so much i dont think you will be dissapointed with the newer eclpises at all

I highly disagree. They've just gotten crappier and crappier after the 2nd gen.
It's takes alot of time and $$$ to make a 3/4th gen good.

Re: Maybe getting a 3g or 4g...

i take it that you have owned a 2nd gen and then moved on to a 3rd or 4th gen and wasnt happy with it?? if thats the case to each its own. i have owned a 3rd gen and had it for a long time, was well worth the $$$$ ( which wasnt alot cos i got a good deal) and still happy with it!! good luck with your choice of new vehicle blackcrow!!
