Yamaha D'ANTIN YZR500
Hi Everyone this is my first MotoGP build. I have been watching all the great builds here and learned a lot. I have been working on this for a few weeks now so here is some of my progress.
The kit Here a photo after I glued the tank together. ![]() To make things a little more realistic I drilled out the rear brake disc and the front chain sprocket. Thanks Joel got the idea from you ![]() ![]() I finished up the engine it's pretty much per the instruction except I used Alclad aluminium instead of XF-16. I also applied Model Factory Hiro carbon fiber to the air intakes also I added SMS photo etched bolt heads on the air intake. ![]() the other side ![]() Here it the front fork the main part painted semi gloss black then the shock part Alclad pale gold, and the brake caliper X-31 titanium gold. Then I sprayed semi gloss clear two coats let dry real good and washed the Brambo logo with thinned X-7 ![]() Enjoy thanks for looking

Re: Yamaha D'ANTIN YZR500
Superb build.....one question
How do you paint the chain? It's one of the most realistic chain I've ever seen... |

Re: Yamaha D'ANTIN YZR500
Quote:
The chain is X-32 Titanium Silver Acrylic sprayed through my air brush Rear sprocket is X-31 Titanium Gold with X11 Chrome Silver on the bolts I used Tamiya Enamel paint and brush it on Front sprocket is XF-56 Metallic Grey thinned acrylic brush painted 2 applications. I make it look dirty with X-18 semi-black again acrylic really thinned like dirty water and with the smallest size brush I have I dab around the links in the chain. To be honest this is the first time attempted to do a wash like that I have not had much luck with washes in the past looking good. Thanks again

Re: Yamaha D'ANTIN YZR500
I'm building the same bike and I'm right about the same level of completion also. I might have to slow down as I have other projects on the table. I'll keep my one on your progress.

Re: Yamaha D'ANTIN YZR500
Looking very good Dave! The D'antin livery is seldom seen and that's a pity cause it's a nice looking bike! Keep it up.

First is the seat I painted it black the dusted it with embossing powder then sprayed black over top then a coat of Testors flat clear. Next is the rear fender it was painted gloss black to get a real smooth finish and the I applied Studio 27 carbon fiber once it was dry I applied several coats of Zero 1K clear. ![]() Thanks for looking

Re: Yamaha D'ANTIN YZR500
Nice work so far. I've been on the fence about buying the embossing powder but seeing your results is starting to tip me over into getting some myself. Do you plan to leave the fender as it is in the picture? I'm thinking a little bit of Smoke over it might be good. Chain looks very effective.

Re: Yamaha D'ANTIN YZR500
I agree with Kev, I must try that embossing powder, or some micro balloons. The fender looks great!
