new or rebuild?
if my transmission is bad, what should i do rebuild it or just buy a new one, if i rebuild i can have plenty of help from some mechanic friends..

If you have access to the special tools and have the expertese, rebuilding it yourself will be cheaper.

What transmission is it? One myust be VERY careful where they "buy a new one".

i believe its a 700r4...not for sure tho, i havent been able to get under to take a look.

Yes, a 1987 Camaro will have a 700R4.
Don't buy a new transmission, it won't last. If you replace it get a rebuilt from a reputable builder. I bought one from a guy on E bay, he was /is in N.C. He gave a 1 year warrenty, phone support if needed (I used it on a Sunday and had no problems getting a hold of him). If I could remember his name I'd post it, he was absolutely great to deal with. I'll look around for his info, I think I still have it. |
