Difference between 2 door and 4 door fuel pump?
I need a new fuel pump and was looking around. An O'Reilly Auto Parts store here locally has a 4 door Airtex pump for $230 and a 2 door Airtex pump for $330. What is the difference and why is the price so much different? I am seeing some ACDelco brand new on ebay for less than $200 that are 4 door. I just don't know what the difference is.

Re: Difference between 2 door and 4 door fuel pump?
Year make and model and engine?
What is bad on your old pump? 2 dr. and 4 dr. have different tanks and different fuel pumps. You have to stay with what you got. Walk away from the airtex fuel pumps. Ask you parts place to get you a AC-Delco/delphi fuel pump. 25$ more than aftermarket and saves you up to a 1000$ in replacements of bad airtex and aftermarket pumps and saves head aces and tow bills.

Re: Difference between 2 door and 4 door fuel pump?
It's a 2000 Chevy Blazer, 6 cyl 4.3L. I'm not sure what is wrong with my pump. Engine turns over but kicks and does not ignite. It's at the shop now but I am going to buy the pump elsewhere.

Re: Difference between 2 door and 4 door fuel pump?
Make sure it is fuel pump befor replacing it.
Start with a cold cranking fuel pressure check. Will it start on carb cleaner? The only true test on a fuel pump is to check the direct fuel pressure from fuel pump. A quick test is to block off the return line and see if fuel pressure comes up to 75-85 lbs. But do not run the pump at full pressure very long. Also when testing fuel pump and pressure you need to tape a gauge to outside windshield or outside mirror and drive it on the road for 20 -30 minutes until the pump gets has run a while to check for a pump fading out after hot. Hard to start cold and fuel pressure testing guide line. Check cold start fuel pressure. Check engine running fuel pressure. Check engine running on the road fuel pressure. Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down. Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure. If pump has full pressure with return line blocked and low pressure without it blocked most usually the fuel pressure regulator is leaking or not holding pressure. Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure. Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure. If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel. Do not leave home without it. Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load. Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more. And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak in system. Post back fuel pressure readings.

Re: Difference between 2 door and 4 door fuel pump?
Well, right now it's at the shop. I had to get it towed this morning. They are going to diagnose and let me know what the problem is before I purchase a pump.

Re: Difference between 2 door and 4 door fuel pump?
Check it out for sure.
O'rielly gave you the wrong prices. 2D airtex is 317.05 cost. 4D airtex is 252.11 cost. Cut off /full pressure is also different on 2D and 4D pumps. The good Delphi pumps. 2D = 341.00 $ 4D = 307.78 $ O'riellys will try to push airtex pumps even when knowing they have a hight return rate. I have saw people put in 3-4 airtexs pumps in a row before they get one to even run. Just say no to airtex and tell them to get youn a good AC-Delco/delphi fuel pump.

They may not want to but tell them if they want to sell you fuel pump order it. If not find another parts store that will. Sometimes your GM parts dealer will cut you a good deal on them. CHECK AROUND. Good luck and let us know how things goes.

Re: Difference between 2 door and 4 door fuel pump?

I'll tell you what it is from experience. My local Napa dealer gave me a pump for a pick-up, instead of a 2 door Blazer. Knuckle head figured, "Well, I don't have a 2 dr pump in stock, the 4 dr is a different number, I'll give you the 2 dr S10 pump. Same thing" It was slightly higher in sizr, about 1/2". Took quite the effort for me to jam it into the tank. The springs wouldn't compress enough, but I managed to get it in there. The only problem was, the fuel gauge didn't work properly. It never went higher than 3/4 full when I had a full tank. So, I had to remove it. That was a Carter pump. The replacement correct Carter pump failed after 14 months. Replaced it with a Delphi pump (ACDelco no longer makes the pump). The Delphi lasted 22 months(crapped out 2 or 3 months ago-leak in the hose from the housing to the pump.$400.00 at Napa;Napa dude sold me another at his cost $290.00). Don't buy the incorrect pump, and as MT2500 said, don't buy the Airtex, or Carter pump.

(Delphi is the ACDelco spin-off company. When GM liquidated ACDelco approx. 5 years ago, some parts remained branded under ACDelco, while others where transfered to Delphi) For example. I recently bought an Ignition module from Rock Auto. They listed both ACDelco, and Delphi part numbers. I ordered the ACDelco, and I received a Delphi part. I e-mailed to complain, because there was a price difference of $10.00. They credited my account $10.00, and said I couldn't get the ACDelco part. In 1985 General Motors purchased Hughes Aircraft and merged it with Delco Electronics to form Hughes Electronics Corporation, an independent subsidiary. In 1997 all of the aerospace and defense businesses of Hughes Electronics (Hughes Aircraft and Delco Systems Operations) were merged with Raytheon, and the commercial portion of Delco Electronics was transferred to GM's Delphi Automotive Systems business. Delphi became a separate publicly-traded company in May 1999, and continued to use the Delco Electronics name for several of its subsidiaries through approximately 2004. Although Delco Electronics no longer exists as an operating company, GM still retains rights to the Delco name and uses it for some of its subsidiaries including the ACDelco parts division.
