UIM story, bad garages...lil funny

Just a story about how helpful this site can be. A few months ago when experiencing coolant loss and first time owning a 3800 series 2, you guys pointed me to the UIM. This is a job i knew i could do myself but wanted some reassurance that it was the UIM before i took it apart. So i stopped by a local small garage and told them about my coolant loss. they immediately grapped a pressure tester to put on. That day for some reason the rad was holding pressure and he took the cap off and coolant came out of course. he proceeded with pressure test and it was loosing pressure like crazy and none to be seen coming out externally. He was baffeled, lol. So he came to the conclusion that the bottom of rad had to be leaking, right? I told him what i thoguht of the UIM and he never heard of such thing. he quoted me a price on new rad and install and said he guarnteed it would fix it or money back. he asked why the check engine light was on and i told him it was map causing it and pointed to the sensor over the pcv. He said thats not the map this car doesnt have one, lol. Well, thanks to you guys i didnt take his advice and went to replacement of UIM. Did it myself. problem fixed. no more cooloant loss and runs alot better. I guess i should have had him to the rad job so i could get a new one for free huh?,lol. GUYS, watch out for people with garages that ave no idea what they are doing. after this i would never recommend this garage even for an oil change, lol. This might not be as funny to you guys but it makes me laugh thinking about this afterwards. Joe.

Thanks for the feedback and update.

Yeah the one about not having a MAP sensor was a good one. ....

Wow he must not have known that 3800 never had a MAP until 1996 when GM went OBD2..

The 1995 Series II 3800 did not use a map, all of the SC 3800's from 91.5 to 95 only used a map for the boost gage if the car was equipped with one..

Funny tho he said it didn't have a map where there was one right in front of him...
