Getting rid of "Service 4WD" message. 03 Tahoe Z71
I have a 2003 Tahoe Z71. The front gear box for the 4wd had an oil leak and started making noises. The mechanic removed the 4WD gears and the shaft so I don't have 4WD anymore. The 4WD control switch in the dashboard is disabled. Now, I just want to get rid of the "service 4WD" message that is contantly displayed on the dashboard. Is there a way I can remove it?

If you had the details of how this system operates and tests its self on start up then you would know why... |

Well, it's not a bulb it's a message on the display. It overwrites the odometer. I'd much rather see my mileage instead of "Service 4WD":/ |

Re: Getting rid of "Service 4WD" message. 03 Tahoe Z71
You'd have to take it back to whomever removed the front shafting and gear. There should be trouble code(s) stored in your truck's ECM. Once you know which sensors (or lack thereof) are causing the trouble code, one could try to fool them into thinking all is okay. Just make sure that all the disconnected sensor pigtails are sealed up with electrician's tape or rubber boots in case you ever decide to reinstall it or sell the truck.
