AWD or FWD with 4G63T
Ok, my previous post asked a question which i learned through little research online. Now asking if anyone posts a reply is whats better AWD or FWD with a 4G63T motor. I have a 93 eclipse GS which is FWD. Options.... Swap powertrain in current car; search for a cheap GSX and part current car out; or run my GS FWD with a 4G63T motor.
Thoughts and Opinions much appreciated. |

Re: AWD or FWD with 4G63T
Just so you realize, the 4g63t is the turbo version to your 4g63. The internals to the two motors are different. It would be pointless to add AWD to your GS which is way underpowered. You could end up trying to swap a 4g63t and AWD into your GS but it would be entirely more work and money than its worth. If you really want AWD and a lot more power, ditch the GS and just start out with a GSX or TSi AWD. You'll spend a lot less time and money going that route than doing any swapping.

Re: AWD or FWD with 4G63T
yea I agree with brian here.
The engine isn't going to put out enough power without a turbo to make it necessitate awd on the other hand the fwd to awd is very time consuming and difficult. If you want it all its best to start with as much as you can get.

Re: AWD or FWD with 4G63T
Well i was thinking i would get an engine stand, buy a jdm 4g63t motor build it up with bolt ons and all the other jazz. Then when i was ready put it in the car. I am just curious whether the pro's about having an AWD out weigh that of just a FWD. Would it be worth the headache. I think ultimately my goal is to get from say.... 0 - 90 really damn fast.

Re: AWD or FWD with 4G63T
the pro's of awd outweigh the fwd by far

Re: AWD or FWD with 4G63T
I agree with everyone on here, you will want to start with a turbo car, whether or not you choose to go FWD or AWD. You will want to just sell your GS or part it out, however you can get more money for it. OR just keep it as a daily driver as you will probably need it for when your turbo car is not running while you work on it.
I definitely say that AWD is much better than FWD. I really dont see any point in building a high power FWD car.
