Re: 99 Corolla Inner Tie Rod
run the car up on a set of ramps.take the outer tie rod loose from the steering knuckle,do this by taking the cotter key out loosening the tierod nut and take it off. now on the side of the steering knuckle hit the side of the nuckle where the tierod goes in it.not the tierod end.about three good pops and the tierod end should be free.now the boot for the inner tierod end has a factory clamp on the big end. you might as well cut this clamp ,dont cut the boot.slide the boot out the way .you will see the end of the rack and the inner tierod screws into it. there is a lock washer that should be flattened down on the wrench groves on the inner tierod you have to raise them back up.use a hammer and large screwdriver or chisel and get these to raise on both sides. the wrench grooves take a thin wrench . can't remember the size of the wrench, around a 26 or 28 metric i think. turn left to loosen..reverse everything to install the new one.be sure to bend the lock washers down on the new inner tierod.these things are pretty expensive.but you gotta have them.
