Panoz GTS Video's - Sebring and Daytona

All of the below video is before we did most of the current mods. All have our old setup of 285 tires on 18x10 wheels and 325’s on 18x12’s. The 2006 stuff had a 396 stroker motor with about 410 rwhp if I had to guess. The 2007 video has the current engine but nothing else. Most of the mods (larger front tires, moving the wing, adding the splitter, messing with springs (other than stock GTS springs), gearing etc.) where all done for 2008 nasa nationals so I will have video from this year coming soon…..

SCCA Daytona 8/2006 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzcPcj4gvXQ - I am driving my brother’s car #23. We only took one car to Daytona the other car was waiting for a new engine. Watch the cowl and the windshield at high speed. We bent the windshield bar and even attached it to the center console and bent that too. We than switched from aluminum to steel and that held. We ran a 2 minute flat lap time but it was our first visit to Daytona. I know we had more and this was with a diff. motor than current. We had a 396 stroker and before a bunch of recent mods (no aero changes and smaller tires). Still we broke 186 mph when we passed a guy with a GPS so we don’t know how fast we got but it was faster than 186 because he came over and showed us after the race.

NASA Sebring 2007 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEFHsBhOoQ8 - A typical Florida race for us. Nobody in our class to play with so we end up chasing radicals or running alone. Fun…ALWAYS….. but can get boring and making passes with tough competitors is what gets the blood flowing once you move up to RR from DE.

PBOC Sebring 9/2006 - 4-Part Complete 90 minute enduro race filmed from my brothers car #23 exchanging leads with me in #4. This was a rare race where my brother and I got to actually race each other without something separating us. We exchanged the lead several times (I think in ever section of this race) and then the race got called because of lighting. We had a radical racing with us too. This was when we had the 650 cfm Barry Grant with about 530 rwhp and I think we are running without mufflers. There was a while we ran without mufflers to see if it would be cooler inside and meaner outside . It was cooler (lighter too) and the engine sounded soooooo GOOD!

Re: Panoz GTS Video's - Sebring and Daytona

You can calculate out your mph. All your data is in front of you.

What rear gear are you running and what is your final drive ratio?

You can even stop watch some points on the straight away and back out the difference compared to others.

Lets says it a 3.55 gear with a .81 overdrive at 6300 rpm on a 26.5 tire (that will grow a little). That puts you at about 175 mph. Which is A GOOD MPH for your h.p. level. You have a very honest engine builder. It is also about how fast it looks like you're going. Your car is moving for sure and to run a 2:00 at that mph is a good lap time. Nice driving.

Watch the bottom of turn four (where you lift a little through those massive bumps), I ripped a panhard bar mount clean off at 162 mph there...its faster down there than up top...but bumpy!! WOW, the panhard bar flipped down and lodged under the fuel cell and jacked up the rear, throwing a rooster tail of sparks for 100 feet behind the car. With no panhard bar that was quite a job getting that car stopped without hitting anything.

Right....I guess I can do it with math...you would think I would have thought of that being a Mechanical Engineer and all the math I have studied...GOOD THINKING!!!!

I redid the calc using our rear tire which is 27.83 overall diam. according to bob woodmans website (your rear gear and 5th gear is correct). I played around a little to account for tire growth and RPM's. If we hit 6400 rpms and the tire grows 3/4" overall (which is conservative) the MPH is 189.24 so the GPS reading the guy showed us is deff. possible. COOL thats fast . It really doesnt feel that fast because of the banking. I kept trying to not lift thru there but my brain kept interfering (it was my first visit after all and I have kids ). My brother didnt lift in there and hit the rev limiter which was about 6500 or so back then. This video was not the race that we passed the guy with the GPS so I am not sure which video we hit the 2 min. lap time. I am looking for it it was a while back! I wish NASA went to Daytona.

Brains, I'm getting a little aggravated as these videos are likely to cost me money. Thanks for sharing though and please post more.

What spring rates are you running?
