94 Voyager 3.3 code 52

Friends Voyager 94, 3.3L 212,000 miles.

She has recently complained about when engine is cold it wants to stall when decelerating and turning corners. If she keeps foot on gas pedal and holds brake slightly will turning she can keep it running. Once the engine has completely warmed up it runs fine. She told me about it the other day and I drove it myself when it had been warmed up and had no trouble. Had code 52 which I erased to see if it has been set again. I talked with her today but have not checked for codes again to this point. Code 52 is 02S Signal Stays above Center (Rich).

I have done a search and found that the MAP Sensor has been referred to also
.
Will a faulty 02 Sensor just read above center when cold and when engine is to normal operating temp be reading emissions the way it should or would this be more of a broken wire to look for?

Good thing of all this is that I have a 93 3.3 that I can use as a loaner to get the MAP Sensor for testing purposes.

Soon as she gets time I will try to fix.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cool Re: 94 Voyager 3.3 code 52

I just found a nice page about stalling problems on these:
http://www.allpar.com/fix/stall.html

This branches off into other topics, like the MAP sensor & codes. I would get erratic MAP out of range error, as well as erratic stalling, so I replaced the cam sensor, crank sensor, and MAP sensor. No more stalling now.

Thanks for link Rawtorque, very interesting and informative. You're so right there are many avenues that can cause the stalling. Think I'll start with putting the MAP sensor on from the donor van, if that doesn't cure it I'll try the IAC. I have a feeling between the two it's going to correct the problem.

Hopefully I can do it today before it gets to dam cold here. Suppose to get below zero here in Wisconsin this week. Still warmer here than where I lived my younger days in ND.

Thanks again for help and I'll keep you posted.

Re: 94 Voyager 3.3 code 52

Your MIL code 52 equates to a scanner code P0172. Incase you haven't looked at this yet: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0172
Looks like you're on the right track with the MAP sensor. Don't shoot the messenger (O2 sensor) before you check to see if you really do have a rich condition.

I think it is so strange to find this type of codes but you can find from Voyager authorized car dealer.

Re: 94 Voyager 3.3 code 52

UPDATE:

I had erased code couple days ago to see if it reappeared and no code 52. Started van, ran like crap. Reading the link that Rawtorgue and RIP supplyed me. In the link from Rawtorque there was a note regarding the IAC will cause stalls at cold operation but not once engine has operated at Normal temp for a period of time. Taking this note into consideration I started by cleaning throttle body and installing IAC off of donor van. Started van and it still ran like crap. I decide to take a break and decide what to do next, so I reread the note on the IAC. I had forgotten a step. DISCONNECT BATTERY TO RESET COMPUTOR. Disconnected battery, waited a few mniutes reconnected and started engine. Engine ran like a charm. Drove for 1 1/2 miles with several turns and stop signs and ran great. Spoke with owner of vehicle today after setting overnight in 0 degree weather and operated just fine.

thanks again Rawtorque and Rip for info and input.

Hope this helps someone else in future.
