79 TA -Fuel pressure goes to 0, engine stops

I've replaced the fuel pump. Have about 1/4 tank of gas in tank.
I have about 7# when I start the car.
When I drive the carm the fuel pressure eventually drops and stays around 2-4#.
If I go up a gradual hill the pressure will go to O and the engine quits like I've run out of gas..

I think the problem is in the gas tank.
Could it be a rusted fuel line, plugged sock? It seems that their is something that is causing the fuel pump to loose part of its prime to eventually have 0 fuel pressure.

Do I have to drop the tank or can I get to it from the trunk?

Has anyone had this situation happen to them?
How do I go about to fix the problem.
You assistance is appreciated.
thx

Sounds like there is a problem with the fuel pickup. Unfortunately, the only way to get a peek in the tank and see the problem is to drop the tank.

Agreed, look closely at the filter (inside the carb, just behind where the line goes "in"). And yes, it COULD be the pickup or the "sock".

Dropping the tank in that car is quite easy. Two straps hold it up. Use a floor jack under the middle, loosen the stud/nut combo on each side, and slowly lower the tank. Removing the rubber lines before dropping it, makes life a bit easier...
