Re: Mixed bag o' sketches

Hey, extremely nice work, i have nothing to critisise.
I was also wondering what and where did you get the tools from, becos im 14/15 yrs ols and my ambition is to be an automotive designer, so i was wondering how u got those tools cos the style u used to draw the pics looks like the automotive design style (correct me if im wrong).
Great Work!!!

Re: Mixed bag o' sketches

I was expecting something not as cool. Your imagination is limitless. You should design vehicles for sci fi movies or something. I love the mono ski snow mobile that looks like something out of a GI Joe comic from the 80s. I think my favorite is the convertible coupe that looks like you took the styling from a bullet train from the 40s. Looks like something Clark Kent would drive in the old old old Superman cartoons. I like your style. You're pretty talented. The only thing I have to add is that the very first vehicle looks a lot like the Jeepster concept turned into an SUV. Just an observation. Welcome back to the boards.

Thanks, man. Ya, after years of doing animation layout I (finally) plan to spread out and go after some big guns with my vehicles.

As for your Jeepster comment...I think that that marker rendering is so old that may have Chrysler swiped it from me.

Thanks again, good to be back!

Re: Mixed bag o' sketches

That's a pretty nice set of sketches you got there !!
Your portfolio aughtta look beautiful with stuff like that! All the best in your new direction.

By the by--you say you were in layout and I see you are in Ottawa--how are things in the animation biz up there? I collaborated with a couple studios in Ottawa when I was at Nelvana years ago.

Re: Mixed bag o' sketches

These do have wheels...they're just hidden...so technically they can be driven.

But they'd be much more fun to fly!

Re: Mixed bag o' sketches

Lemorris has always been my favorite sketcher on here with his determination, kind words, and awesome VDUB renditions. As of late, you have become my favorite sketcher on here. I have even found myself looking back into the archives to see your imagination unfold. I love your techniques. It seems to me that you take your design cues from insects, animals, and even midieval helmets. I've always been a fan of retro-futuristic designs. That is, I like designs that look like they originated in an era that anticipated what our future would be. Your designs tread along a boundary between the future and the present, without ever seeming impossible or over-the-top. I just had a question and a suggestion. in your second string of illustrations, you have a large tracked vehicle that resembles a rhino, with wheels in the back and what looks like a boat in the middle. I wanted to know what was going on in your mind when you created this obviously purpose-built vehicle. What is its function; name? I would love to see a thread or even a webpage devoted to your designs with descriptions of the functions they serve, as well as different sketches showcasing the versatility of your vehicles. This one apparently does more in your mind than it does on paper. Are their pulleys and rigging that launch the boat? What is the troop capacity? I'm thinking - 80's GI Joe blueprints! Keep it coming! *G*

Re: Mixed bag o' sketches

Here's some more using the more traditional marker method. Hat's off to you guys who are really good with the medium, as it is certainly not as forgiving as Photoshop!

Re: Mixed bag o' sketches

This sheet is perhaps straying a bit from its automotive roots...but I thought some of you folks may enjoy taking a peek...

Luv the techno-futuristic look of these design.
Each one seems to start the cogs in my brain twirling to come up with a background story.

Please keep posting them.

Oh these are sweet! You will be a great animator, at least that's what I see when I see you sketches. They look like something you'll see in a animation.
