Question Fuel Pump? 98 yukon

I got a 98 yukon. It would turn over and had spark but wouldnt start, sat for about a week then started running fine again without me doing anything but checks.. Now it is randomly doing the same thing and wont start again, thinking it is the fuel pump, but I am getting about 60 psi when the fuel pump is running, then it kicks right down to about 50-55 psi? Is it still the fuel pump or something else?

Re: Fuel Pump? 98 yukon

when it doesn't start, do you hear the fuel pump running at key on for 2 seconds? If not- then whappp the fuel tank- see if it comes on within the 2 second window after key on...

Re: Fuel Pump? 98 yukon

Ya, the fuel pump is kicking on, but it is only bringing it up to just about 60 psi for a second or two then it is dropping down to 50 or 55 psi.. Is that normal?

It is normal to drop down psi. I would check every ground you can find sounds like pumps good.

Re: Fuel Pump? 98 yukon

Proper pressure here is 65 psi, if the gage is accurate, and you should not see a gradual drop, say to 25 or so in a 1 minute time period, if so the pressure regulator is usually bad or the pump, to be sure the return line would have to pinched off, if the pressure drops off then spider/regulator should be replaced.
