Mclaren F1 Chassis #27R at Autosport International this weekend

Hi there,

Today was press day at the Autosport International show held at the NEC nr Birmingham here in the UK.

Cars International had a stand there with four cars present (3 of them are Ferraris those being F40, 360 GT Race car and 250 GTO replica) the fourth car is Chassis 27R the ex Parabolica car.

As usual with these shows the cars are parked that close together you can't get a decent shot for love nor money. So here is one pic for you.

Yes you do see a For Sale sign on the windscreen.

Not sure if any of you guys are going, if so I hope you can find some better angles for pics.

Regards

Tim

Re: Mclaren F1 Chassis #27R at Autosport International this weekend

I too attended the trade day on Thursday 8/1/09 @ Autosport International, and (towards the end of the day) found chassis 27R hidden away on the Cars International stand.
A quick enquiry with the proprietor elicited the response that it wouldn't be wise to remove the tapes from in front of the car (for a clear photo) but that I was welcome to take a close-up look at the car (plus photos) from the stand !
Furthermore, he stated that he was going to move the car to the central position (of the 5 cars displayed) at closing time in order that it was in clearer view !
So anyone attending the show Friday through Sunday may get better shots of the car in its new position.
I took the opportunity to lean inside and snap the chassis plate plus cockpit area, and other incidental shots possible in its limited space, to be posted later today.
Curiously, the car was still fitted with an in-car camera sytem (from its Parabolica racing days ?) and had been on the Cars International books for the past ten years (according to the proprietor).
The asking price for this beast - a cool £1,000,000 !

At today's exchange rate that's only Eu 1,000,000 (which seems a bargain !) but that's still US$ 1,400,000 !

It shows its racing heritage through a wealth of additional holes, battle scars and other collateral damage !

Compare that with the $3.8M that BingoSports apparently wants for #28R and it suddenly seems like a bargain.

10 years worth of ownership probably means that the Cars International owner was the one to scoop it up at auction back in 1998 for a song - I seem to recall the hammer price was close to $500,000 or so. I think it was a Brooks auction. Anyone remember better?

Thanks to all for pics and info.

It was Brooks. I don't have the selling price handy right now but your estimate seems about right

Re: Mclaren F1 Chassis #27R at Autosport International this weekend

When I spoke to Johnathon Kaiser [one of the owners of Cars International, the one with the beard] in October of last year he said it may go up for sale, but wasn't at that time. He let me take a few good photo's of it, and got it opened up for some interior shots too.

Hope it finds a good home.

You've made my day Greg ! That's two good days in a row (after seeing 27R yesterday), which proves that this forum is more effective than therapy !

Re: Mclaren F1 Chassis #27R at Autosport International this weekend

Very nice to see 27R at ASI today. Thanks for the info guys

Had an interesting chat with the Cars International representative, an extremely nice gentleman. After our discussion. I come to the conclusion that 27R is a bargin, at the price it is being offered at. When you consider that it has full compliment of spare parts, including a spare gearbox.

This is probably a good investment, an offer not to be missed!!, anyone got a spare "mill" lying around.

For more info, contact www.carsinternational.com

Here is a shot in its new stand position, plus another take on its chassis plate.

More pics to follow.

Nice one !

It's bloody tricky taking chassis plate photos in the dark - isn't it ?
