2001 Windstar Won't Start
Battery is operating but car makes a clicking noise when trying to start. Is this the starter or the alternator?

Re: 2001 Windstar Won't Start
I have a 2001 but never had this problem.. When my battery was getting weak all my dash lights and inside and head lights would flash and then I got a click.. Will it jump start off another car.. If so i would take a closer look at the battery or the alt.. Most Auto parts places will check both for free.. Also check your relays.. as long as they are the same numbers on the relays you can switch them around and see what happens. Then replace the bad one.. They are located under the hood next to the battery area..

Re: 2001 Windstar Won't Start
You may have connection issues at the battery posts, the engine ground points and at the starter. Check for corrossion, dirt and looseness. Clicking means not enough power is getting to the starter solenoid to engage the starter. So, it's either the battery or the wiring from it to the starter/solenoid. I've seen perfectly fine looking battery lead posts and clamps, but they were coated with a black oxidized layer that insulated electrical flow.

Re: 2001 Windstar Won't Start
When mine did this I used a new battery to no avail. Then I removed the starter and had it tested. It tested fine so i attempted to move the flywheel(where the starter was) with a lever/screwdriver...no movement. It was seized.
Have the starter checked. |
