Top Post Underhood Fuse Box Cable
99 GTP 125k miles I have had the zzp hid conversion kit on my car for sometime now, DRL are disabled and lanterns ignite properly. Only notice one thing upon turning the lights on, I get a flickering of the DIC and digital thermostat display lights.
Of course I actually have a lot of electronics on this car: viper remote start car alarm system with window modules, rockford fosgate 200 watt amp and a jvc deck both set to low power output (I'm serious!). I do have a few mods to help my power consumption but not much: zzp alternator voltage booster, zzp alternator power cable, yellowtop optima battery. All my additional electronics are wired to the top post of the underhood fuse box with the smallest cable being around 8 gauge. My battery positive cable is good with no corrosion as well as the ground cable. But I did notice I still have a tiny (10-12 gauge) wire connecting the top post underhood fuse box to the positive battery terminal. I was wondering if this might be causing my flickering issue, or if anyone has changed that extender cable? |

Re: Top Post Underhood Fuse Box Cable
I would say you are most likely overloading that small cable. Do you notice it getting warm tot he touch? If so, I would buy a replacement positive calbe bolt that has an extra lug on the end for adding accessory power wires, and run your highest draw items direct off the battery.

Re: Top Post Underhood Fuse Box Cable
Still running the stock Delco CS-130D alternator? Only rated at 105 amps.
Since you have all the basic mods and ZZP gizmos a high output alternator may be the only solution. Around 220-220 amps. The complaints of flickering go away.

Re: Top Post Underhood Fuse Box Cable
I will agree that many items connected to the jump start terminal are probably overloading it, but Could it be a failing ignition switch also?
