98 Astro Van AWD-Interior lights and power door locks
I am having 2 problems and they seem to be related. My interior lights stay on long after I have locked the doors and retired for the night. They also randomly come on when driving down the road and won't turn off. I have pulled the fuse for the lights so now I don't have interior lights and my power mirrors don't work. In addition, at about the same time, my power door locks started to randomly lock. I would start my car and be outside waiting for it to warm up or scraping ice off the windows and without warning-click, click, click-all my doors are locked and van is running with me outside looking in. I changed all of my switches for my doors-front, side, rear hatch, etc. It didn't fix the problem. Is there something that controls both interior lights such as the delay and also the power door locks. Might be a good place to start. I sure would appreciate some help. Has anyone else experienced this problem.
Thanks. |

Re: 98 Astro Van AWD-Interior lights and power door locks
1). Does the vehicle have a security system, either factory or aftermarket? It could be a short circuit in the "lock" circuit.
2). It might be a problem in the lock module, (if your vehicle is equipped with that option). Check your owners manual for the procedure on setting the auto-lock function, there are several ways you can program it. If the programming procedure works ok, the module is most likely ok. Post your results. |

Re: 98 Astro Van AWD-Interior lights and power door locks
I had the same sort of probleems and traced it to the wiring inside the rubber boots running between the doors and the body of the van. They become brittle and break down after the years causing shorts between them. My door lock button would move my passenger mirror, the window motor wiring was always faulting and get the windows stuck and blowing interior light fuse and so on. I found 14 broken and cracked wires on the drivers side and half as many on the passenger side. Had to replace a 1 foot section of all the wires to make a complete repair, quite a task but well worth it. Now all the windows, mirrors, interior lights and door locks work perfectly. I cannot say this is your problem but its always worth checking if you run out of options. good luck
