Cruise Control

I have a 98 gt with 165,000 on it and the cruz control is acting up. When you start driving and go to use the cruz it does not work. I have to sit their and keep pushing the set button and turn it on and off. Once i get it to work it works for the rest of the time i am driving whether i turn it on or off so i do not think its the switch. The longer the interval between driving it seems to get worse, if i drive a lot in a day it works normally the first time i got to use it. When it is working and you set it it drops a MPH or two before it sets then gets back up to speed. The ABS/Trac Modual is out but it has been out since i bought the car and the wippers stick up when shut off i don't think any of this has any thing to do with the cruz but figured i would put it on here just incase.

Re: Cruise Control

here's a fix for your wiper issue

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=771784

the abs/trac-off issue is most likely a wheel speed sensor in one of the front hubs. An ABS capable scan tool can narrow that down for you, or you can try to ohm the wheel speed sensor plug that comes out of the hub. If it's not around 1k ohms, then that is the hub causing the lights. If both hubs ohm out ok, then you'll need to have it scanned.

The cruise control issue is most likely a bad cruise control module.

Re: Cruise Control

You are very welcome for the help, that's what we're here for.

The cruise module is located under the hood near the driver's side front strut tower. There is a cable that runs from it to the throttle body.

here's a picture from our tips and maintenance subforum of common emission system components. If you look on the far right side margin of the picture, you'll see a black box with a bar code on it, that's the cruise control module.
