Well consider that Toyota's new 4runner also has a hood scoop, but it isn't functional.

just a small correction. that's a JZA80, not a JZA70. anyways, my Kyosho 1:18 Supra has a hood scoop on it. i think they're functional and i think they were available in the states and Japan, they just might be rare...but don't quote me.

it is indeed a JZA80. Scoop was part of the Euro model. The Japanese model offered it as a dealer option. USA never received it. Japan did get an active front chin spoiler that deployed down above 70mph.

the 2jz gte are notorious for producing a large amount of heat, especially when tuned (hence the trd hood with vents and the widebody kit with fender openings as well). the scoop is for cooling as the air box lays on the front right corner. dont understand why the US never got it

mostly cause USA never gets any thing from Japan cars, every car has less HP and less of the goodies they get, and wee never got the skyline or silvia either

Whoops. Meant to say JZA80.

Anyway, thanks guys.

supratuner - the skyline has to undergo a lot of fixes to be emissions capable in the U.S. Not to mention right hand drive, etc. That's what Motorex does.

The silvia is kinda sorta in the U.S. as the 240sx. Too bad we never got the S15.
