I'm Gettin' Married...

I'm getting married. In 8-10 months, when the US government tells me I can. Sorry to announce it where nobody really cares, I just had to say it so that somebody could hear me. That's it.

Congrats to ME!

Re: I'm Gettin' Married...

Congratulations!
So how does the US gov't dictate when you can get married if you don't mind me asking?
Oh and what makes you think think no one really cares here?

Because she is under 18.

Good luck with that marriage. Statistics say you will fail. I'm sure you have already heard it though, but you should wait.

Actually I believe she is 20. Upon checking her profile it shows her birth date is 8/1/88, hence the "8188" in her user name . Must be somethin' else...

Beats me then. 20 is still too young, and the odds are against her.

I feel I can give that advice, as I was married at 19.

Better you than me. I waited until I was 30. (Still married after 12+ years )

Re: I'm Gettin' Married...

yea.. sadly statistics do say failure is an option..maturity plays a big part..are you really ready to spend maybe 80 more years with this person?

you have lived but 1/5 of your life...and even then only a few years of being actually independent.

I got married at 27, (15 years ago).
I think that if I had married earlier, it would not have worked out as well.

As it is, my wife is pretty tolerant of me.

She does not believe in divorce............ but I think she believes in murder, though...........

Good luck to you Nicole. BTW all the doubters here are really just envious.

Funny you should mention that. Last year in my area two women were arrested for murdering their husbands. They put antifreeze in their husband's drinks and they were poisoned.

There was a similar story on 60 Minutes or 20/20 a few months ago about a murder where fresh antifreeze was mixed in with the neon-green type of Gatorade. It took several weeks to kill the person with this method, though.

Imho that TV program was simply a how-to article on poisoning.

A "cougar-in-training" perhaps.

Re: I'm Gettin' Married...

I got married in April 2008 at the age of 22 (now 23) and can see why people would have problems with getting married at a young age.

My wife and I literally got married and a week later graduated from college. It has been very hard at times, especially during the period where we were living with my in-laws and I was unemployed for two months. Still, I think one of the things to consider going in to it is the maturity level of both people. If you have a good solid understanding of what the BOTH of you want out of not just your relationship, but your marriage relationship (by and before the time of your wedding), I think you'll be able to work through the growing pains.

I haven't read up on too many of the statistics, but my guess is that a lot (but not all) of those that fail by getting married at age 19 are because one or both of the people involved thought it was the same thing as living together and once they realized how much work really goes into it, they say "F*** it" and get divorced. Marriage is a lot of work, but knowing that it's going to take work and being willing to put that time an effort into being a couple at all times - not individuals that just live with one another - then you'll find yourself in a better position than if you are getting into it blindly and for the sake of thinking "marriage is easy and everyone is doing it!"

Congrats, Nicole . And don't worry, it's ok to be excited .
