jeep wont start

I have a 1993 jeep gran cherokee with a 5.2 v-8. when i bought it it was slow starting but always fired just took a little bit. Its been running fine. then recently refused to start. then stared like the next day with alot of turning over. then it ran fine. i checked my fuel filter its good. im getting plenty of fuel. I pulled my spark plug wire off of one plug. i have spark. ive heard of the crankshaft sensor being a jeep problem. could that be it. please help.

Re: jeep wont start

Sometimes a fuel line fails to hold fuel pressure when the engine is switched off.

Before starting next time, try turning the ignition key on for a few seconds, then off, then back on for another few seconds (this gets the fuel pump working and building pressure)......... then try to start. If the truck fires right up, then the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator might be at fault.

If there is no improvement, try checking the fuel pressure itself. I am not sure of the pressure numbers...... I think 35 psi is the absolute minimum required. You would need to install a pressure gauge on the valve mounted on the fuel rail. Test it with the ignition on, but the engine not running, then test with the engine running.

Otherwise, try an ignition tune up...... new plugs, wires cap and rotor. You may have spark now, but the spark might be too weak to properly ignite a rich fuel mixture on cold start up.
