Help with a check engine light...
I have a 99 Cavalier and the light came on the other day when i was at autozone so i asked them to check the light and they said it was my "fuel tank pressure sensor"? So I called up firestone and they said there is no such part. I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I just found the engine codes and for some reason its giving me P0452 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Low Input P0453 Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor High Input How is that possible??? Last edited by Levithain; 01-06-2009 at 10:07 AM. |

Re: Help with a check engine light...
Its right there! The connector on the right is the pressure sensor the connector on the left is for the fuel pump and sending unit. Why would you call firestone to see if you car had one and why would you take there word as the truth? If there's any question about what your vehicle is equipped with or without than give the dealer a call.

Re: Help with a check engine light...
You need to stop calling and/or bringing your vehicle to them!!
It is located on top of the fuel pump module so the fuel tank will have to be lowered to gain access. Just because those codes are present doesn't mean that that is the problem. I'm sure there is a diagnostic flow chart with a few simple things to check!

Re: Help with a check engine light...
the real codes are
DTC P0452 Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Voltage DTC P0453 Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Circuit High Voltage and that sensor is kinda a pain to replace.. id wait until your pump module goes or your fuel tank roats out.... a better reason to drop the tank.. cause s*** hits the fan if your droping the tank and its rusty back there. description of the FTPS. The fuel tank pressure sensor is used in order to detect a vacuum decay or an excessive vacuum during the EVAP diagnostic routine. The fuel tank pressure sensor responds to the changes in the fuel tank pressure or vacuum. The signal voltage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) varies from a minimum of about 0.2 volts with pressure in the fuel tank to above 4.0 volts with a high vacuum in the fuel tank. |
