Okay I have a 2000 Olds Bravada with a starting issue. It will not start (hot or cold) without starting fluid once i turn it over a few times after spraying fluid in it it will run fine with no problems at all unless I shut it off I have to spary the intake again. I have tried alot it has a year old fuel pump, new fuel filter, Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator, (i had the pressure check and it was fine) a hole tune up. I have everyone stumped on whats wrong with it. I am thinking it may be a sensor or some thing like that. Also I can hear the fuel pump kick on when I start it.
Any help or idea's???????????? |

Re: 2000 Olds Bravada Starting issue
What brand of fuel pump was installed a year ago?
Define 'fine' on the fuel pressure - what were the actual numbers?

Re: 2000 Olds Bravada Starting issue
As I'm sure many more will tell you, Airtex pumps are junk - Delco only on our trucks.
You need to get the fuel pressure numbers.

Re: 2000 Olds Bravada Starting issue
I would guarantee the fuel pressure is under 56 PSI! If it is it will not start, but it will run once it is started. It sounds strange but my theory is that since engine vacuum is much greater running it requires less pressure to open the poppets because there is less resistance on the other side.

Re: 2000 Olds Bravada Starting issue
The difficult start but decent run status indicates a fuel problem. The fuel injection system requires 61-65psi at the test port which is a good place to start your trouble shooting.

I'm betting the priming cycle is not being done.

Quote:
Yes there is a 3 to 5 second "prime" when you turn the key on. But if you crank the engine over than the fuel pump should be running as well. So regardless of the "prime" the fuel pump should run when cranking. In this case we know it is because after adding starting fluid the vehicle will start and run! This is a classic symptom of low fuel pressure typically caused buy a bad fuel pump. See me previous post for details!!!

Re: 2000 Olds Bravada Starting issue
Fuel Pressure test kits are available at most auto parts stores for around $40 and sometimes they're less expensive at places like Harbor Freight.
Here's where you connect.
