3,4 mising and rattling after oil change, just found out whats wrong

The garage stripped my engine down and found out the camshaft is gone, gmpp warranty is going to replace the whole engine 3.4 instead of replacing the cam and lifters as the cost of labour and parts to do this and the chance of what if the cam is replaced and something in the bottom of the engine is also damaged also that it would be just as cheap to replace it with a brand new engine

replacing the engine is the safer way...why do you think this occured...? cam wear would be lack of lubrication...this could be a defective oil filter blocking the oil flow etc...

If you use fram filters consider changing to a more reliable brand...
good luck with the new....easy on it for a few hundred miles..

i agree on not using fram filters. for instane a guy had a toyota and the guy he bought it off of said it was junk so i went to change oil to see where it's going low a behold the filter had a rust hole in it. i tried telling him but he wouldn't listen i put new filter on it and it's still going. moral of the story he worked at isusu and tried tell me it was not the oil filter. so i took it home and like i said it still running strong---say no to fram filters

I always checked my oil at least twice a week and never ever was it going down on the dipstick nor was it leaking at anytime,i always used fram oil filters but now will probaly switch to a napa brand filter maybe, i have had 15 impalas since 2003 and never ever had any engine trouble at all,i always used fram oil filters with castrol 5w30,when i get my car back i don't know what to use for oil,the brand name or the oil filter, what do any of you guys think is the best oil and filter, like i said i always used fram and castrol

I used to use ac delco but stoped when the quality was changed to a poor/cheap design...so now and for many years now I have used the purolator plus with excellant results...I cut the filters open and inspect for condition...a very good construction and filter media...design..

with your oil changes at 3,000mi you should not have had this problem...you choice of oil is correct...I used castrol for a very long time on my 380,000mi 1983 and it never needed any engine work...

you say you have owned 15 impala's since 2003 ??? very interesting...

yes i buy them all in silver in a base model, tint the windows, put the ls ans impala factory red emblems all around, put a wing on the back,do my tail-lights in silver vinal and also my moldings on the doors and bumpers in silver vinal and paint the plastic molding under the doors silver, put a set of aluminum rims and also do my chevy emblem in the grill with red vinal, very sharp and unique lookin so everyone wanted the same car so i buy, dress, sell make money and buy again, unfortunatly the one i was keeping give me the very 1st engine trouble

just got word today that the canadian gmpp warranty is Not going to replace my full engine, they decided to just replace the cam and one (1) lifter, not all just the one that is damaged, not pleased,it's a big job itself just to replace the cam and lifters as the engine still has to come out because thier not sure if they can get it out and a new put back in through the side under the right tire side, only way they will put a brand new engine in is if when they take the cam out that they find more damage, they could have at least replaced all the lifters to,only one lobe on the cam is damaged
