Need some info

on my way to work i see this ford escort (i believe its a zx2) sitting in this persons driveway for awhile now and it doesnt have plates on it so i stop and ask them about maybe buying it off them but wanted to know what was wrong with it and they told me that their daughter was driving home from school and it started loosing power so she started pushing the gas pedal down further and further until it died. they havent looked at it since and they just towed it back to their house.

Could it be the timing belt is skipping teeth or possible broke?
it has been sitting now for about 2-3 years.

not sure of year either.

Re: Need some info

No. A timing belt whether broken or skipping teeth will make the engine stop. If it started losing power I would think the fuel pump or fuel filter would cause this. I wouldn't buy a car that doesn't run. If it has been sitting outside for several years the pistons could be rusted to the bore.Expecting a good experience from a car that hasn't run for 3 years is like expecting a good marriage from a woman that has been married 10 times. Caveat emptor--let the buyer beware.
