04 Corolla maint advice

I have an 04 Corolla approaching 100K miles and runs fine but I want to know if the 1.8L engine requires a timing belt change or any other preventative service that might prevent a major repair for a car with this mileage? The CV boots aren't cracked and I've replaced disc pads and changed oil (Mobile1) and there are no leaks. The auto trans seems fine but I haven't serviced it. I just got the recall notice on the window mechanism. This car is driven with care. Any advice welcome. Thanks again for a great site.

I would have the transmission flushed. Can't help you on the timing belt issue. I know they have gotten away from the belts with newer engines I just don't know what year it started.

Re: 04 Corolla maint advice

Check your owner's manual for what periodic maintenance is needed. Typically spark plug change, tranny/diff, & brake fluid changes, maybe coolant change/flush, and timing belt (if equipped).

Spraying down the rubber boots, bushings, and CV boots with silicone lube spray will help keep them pliable. I also spray some onto an old clean rag and wipe down all the rubber door and trunk seals. Armor-All or Turtle Wax's Shine 2001(?) are similar.

Hope this helps!

Re: 04 Corolla maint advice

Your 1.8L I4 has a timing chain.

I have the same engine in my '04 Matrix.

I'm amazed the manual and supplement doesn't provide better service info.

I can tell you the iridium spark plugs need replacing at 120k miles.

To be safe change the trans fluid and clean filter every 40k miles or less if operating in a very dusty environment.
