Escort Cosworth Ypres 1994 Bastos

Some photos of my Ford Escort Cosworth RS from the 1994 Ypres 24 Hours. The car was driven by Patrick Snijers in the Bastos livery. From my research it seems that the precise livery changed changed frequently on different rallies, as well as which wheels were fitted, but I think this is close. The decals and wheels are from Renaissance, and I tried Crazy Modeller seatbelts - not too bad, though not as good as some more expensive ones, but good value for money. The decals were up to the usual standard, responding well to Micro-Sol and Set.

Grant.

Thanks for the comments.

SCORPIONFB - the wheels/tyres are Renaissance items, Speedline 17 inch 5-spokes. I believe the code for them is REN24SP175. From my research the car ran with these wheels sometimes, but also the 6-spoke items that the Imprezas are often seen with, which in hindsight may have looked better.

Cheers,
Grant.

Re: Escort Cosworth Ypres 1994 Bastos

Interesting subject, an original escort changing from all "works team" ones; but I would notice a few things:
- you paint isn't perfect, you may have improved your masking...
- decal over right rear wheel arch seems not be well fitted, exceeding the edge the car... (5th picture)
- You should clean the resin wheels before painting them (side of the spokes aren't clean... ) and paint their details (nuts).
- Also you didn't paint the doors window trims completely and even not at all on the codriver side...
- You put the rear hooks to lift up the car in the wrong side and thay should be white not aluminium.
- put drops of black in exhaust holes !

and one final critic more to Renaissance than you, wheels are too small !
it's looking like a hill climb car than a rally car with so small wheels...

Of course all that critics are to a perfection aim...
You build is not bad.

Re: Escort Cosworth Ypres 1994 Bastos

Hey Phil, thanks for the tips and pointing out the "character flaws". I will add the drops of black in the exhaust - good idea. This is only the second time I have used resin, and I had not realised how rough the wheels were until you spotted it. But as you say - I will learn for next time!!

Cheers,
Grant.

Re: Escort Cosworth Ypres 1994 Bastos

Happy to see you're taking it as an advice as much as a real critic (I was a bit afraid when re-reading what I had just put thinking to be rude or unfair) because as french proverb says "critic is simple, craftmanship not !"
I really only wanted to point what missed to the model to be perfect !
Because I also have had such problems on some of mines
Resin wheels always seem fine before painting, but once painted and once picture made (reveal more things than eye can catch ) some little things appear...
I will be pleased to see your next builds.

And don't hesitate to fire mines
if whenever I finish a model once more
more than 2 years I didn't complete anything...
