Busted Door Handles

Tonight my passenger side door handle just broke off when I tried to open the car door. My driver's side door handle did the same thing a while back and on that side it now just hangs. Has anyone else experienced this and how much does it usually cost to get it replaced? Does the entire door need to be replaced in order to fix it?

I had read somewhere that these door handles are pretty weak and don't hold together too well. Right now I can't even get into my car with the door handles being busted.

Re: Busted Door Handles

Dorman makes aftermarket replacements for these cars exterior door handles

77184- drivers side
77185- passenger side

Any auto parts store that carries Motormite/Dorman should be able to get them for you for around $60 each.

Re: Busted Door Handles

I would ask....this the handle actually break or did the handle just stay in the open position? I know these are quite different from Corsica doors but these ares are still very similar(use same GM service manual in fact). If the handle itself is broke then Advance or Aurtozone most likely can help you or NAPA or as suggested prior to you. However...if the door handle did not break you might be looking at a simple nylon clip problem. On our old Corsica my son complained his had broken so I bought him one but when I tore apart the door I found the handle was fine, bu there were a couple of rods in the door with a nylon clip that held one in and when it gets cold these can break...cost $2 to fix when I finally saw what was broken. NAPA and Advance had them in stock. Just a thought if your handle is intact.

Re: Busted Door Handles

Trust me, anything goes wrong with that handle, replace it, and buy some extras. They are a garbage design, nothing but troubles. Changed 2 per side on my land lords car in 1 year, normal use, proper adjustment. Just trash.
