new engine & transmission install

Hello, I really need some insight here.
I bought a new engine and transmission for my 97 windstar van.The mechanic previously had done fords before, but when he came to my windstar he had all the front end off then realized the whole frame had to be taken off too.
He apologized,re-installed everything and didnt charge me a cent.He recommended I contact ford, another mechanic who was more fully equipped,or refund my parts and trade/cash in the money towards another vehicle.
Any words of wisdom from any gurus out there?

ps he was willing to do the whole shebang for 1,000(about 15 hrs projected work) before this all went awry.

yes, he said he had done many fords before, however ,the problem came when he ran into more than just half doz bolts(eg,suspension bars, the frame needing removing etc)this,he said he was not equipped for.

Yes understand.. That's why I opted for the dealer to do my trans replacement..But from what it sounds like he was being fair not to go further and leave you hanging with a bunch of bolts and excuses.. That why i said he seem to be a good guy.. If they drop the whole bottom out and engine and trans together I see the Job being a little better than one or the other at different times.. Money saved getting both done at once..
