Can I adjust toe out?

I have a 92 Lumina sedan with 150,000 miles on it. Power steering and 3.1 engine. I have noticed that my my right front wheel is toed out. Is this an adjustment that I can do so both wheels track the same or is it a job for an alignment shop? I have to steer to the left slightly to drive straight.
Thank you.

Re: Can I adjust toe out?

If you can loosen the tie rod sleeves (they are usually rusted) and can measure carefully from the inside of straight wheels, you can set the toe properly. This is the way it was done for decades before the advent of optical systems, and if done properly, is just as accurate.

Re: Can I adjust toe out?

Make sure you have the toe specifications, and that the steering rack is not worn or damaged. Keep the steering wheel straight, and keep the front wheels loaded and vehicle level. There are turntables made for this purpose.

Re: Can I adjust toe out?

Good info, but unless the rear toe is right, the wheel will not be straight as this is not a thrust line adjustment.

Re: Can I adjust toe out?

Excellent point. Keep sight of the "big picture" when performing any alignment work. Another major consideration is ride height, especially side-to-side heights on the front of wrong-wheel-drive vehicles. A drive axle with a lower drive angle will tend to pull the vehicle in that direction.
