Question Is it possible???

well, i just finished a corvette z06 that i bought just to see if i would like this hobby, and i do enjoy it quite a bit now. so, about to turn 15, i've been thinking about what car im going to get when i do turn 15 or 16, whenever i get the money.

so i was thinking about getting a model car on the car i want to get in real life, which is a 240sx with a sr20det engine swap. for those that dont know, the sr20det comes form silvias.

so, i was thinking of getting a 240sx model and a silvia model, and doing an engine swap.

so my question is, is it possible? if i get both of them in the same scale, will the engine fit in the 240sx?

thanks in advance.

sorry for the long thread...

CLIFFS
*about to get a car
*want a 240sx with engine swap
*want to build a model of my dream car
*is it possible to swap the engine of one car into the other?

Re: Is it possible???

It should work just fine, to my knowledge there only exists kits of the 180sx and S13 which is technically a 240 anyway. If you're going to attempt this it'd probably be best to buy two kits from the same manufacturer.

Re: Is it possible???

cool. thanks, and thats what i was intending on doing.
sadly, i only can find one kit of the 180sx, and its 25 dollars w/shipping, which is to much IMO, so i'll keep on looking.

thanks agian.

Re: Is it possible???

I have a Tamiya 180SX if you're interested. The box is opened and the parts are off the trees but it is complete.

Hey Rice, I did the same thing when I was your age. It had an unforeseen benefit too. When I finally was ready to buy my first car I knew a lot more about the subject and where to look for signs of monkey business or future trouble.

Re: Is it possible???

sweet. thats awesome.

and pm sent.

EDIT:

and instead of cutting out the hood on the 240sx and then scratch building the parts that surround the engine, could i just find an s13's chassis that has an engine and fit the 240s body on it?

if that makes sense...

I don't think there has ever been a Silvia kit with an engine bay, could be mistaken.

That's where your scratchbuilding skills come into play.

Re: Is it possible???

Anything is possible with plastic! (does that sound right?) anyway, I will love to see your progress, wouldn't mind a 180SX kit myself as I used to own a real one, I do have a PS13 Silvia kit half done in matte black, Japanese-nostalgia ('80's) wheels and R32 skyline bodykit. Will finish and post pic's. Good luck!!

thanks, but its going to be a while, since i cant find either kit for real cheap, i dont really want this to be an expensive project. but i will definately post up progress once it gets going. i am currently looking for the s13 aoshima kit, since it has the engine, and am bidding on a 180sx kit on ebay too.

UPDATE:

yea, long time, no post right? lol

about three hours after my last post, i won an ebay auction on a brand new tamiya 180sx. for 21.50 shipped.

so, once it arrives, i will post a WIP thread, and by the time i finish the interior and exterior, hopefully i will have found a s13 that has a motor.

Re: Is it possible???

You don't need to buy the whole Aoshima Silvia kit, you can order just the engine tree from companies like HLJ.

The kit name is "S13 Silvia Late Type w/Engine" and the part tree is "engine".
