Is this a good remote starter?

I'm not too familiar with remote starters, although I've started researching them.

I was looking at this one http://www.shopbargainworks.com/Prod...000RS&CartID=1.

It seems basic, and a good price, so what do you think? What starter do yo recommend?

Also, how difficult is it to install a remote starter? Pull some panels off, wire a bit, and mount, right? Is there anything more I should be aware of?

Last but not least, is there a difference between ignition 1 and ignition 2?

Well, I'm no expert on auto start, although I was there when the experiment went a little bad with floor shifter 5 speed left in gear and chasing after truck when the person pushed the button just as I grabbed the passenger door knob.
Lucky the engine never got above idle, and the tough 30 year old hedges held the truck back from going through someone's office. It could of ended a little different.
But heck, at that price, how can you go wrong.
If manual tranny, I'd test it when done with drive wheels off the ground.
And when it's 27 degrees below zero, you darn right auto start is smart.

I like the Scytek 2000rs remote start more. It has more user friendly items when programming it to the car plus the range is much better. The prices that site has is a little high especially if it is indeed those models they are selling. Scytek had updated the remotes, those shown are the 2007 units.

Installing to me isn't that bad but that's what I do to make a living. You should go to www.bulldogsecurity.com to look up your car's information. You should know the basics of installing one of these prior to installing. There's a reason people like me charge what we do.

If installing on a manual tranny'd car, pick any of the remote starters but look for a "m" on the end. Those are designed to be on a 5 speed vehicle so you don't end up like the post above this one.

What vehicle is this going in? Does it use a factory anti-theft method that will need to be bypassed?

Depending on how far you plan to be away from your vehicle when starting it, and what the surroundings are, you should consider going with an FM version which has a longer range and handles buildings and other obstructions better than what these standard systems offer. If you're just planning to use it at home when the car is in the garage, this system might work fine.

It's going into an automatic 99 dodge grand caravan. As far as I can tell, the security system for that year was optional, and I don't have it (my key does not have a transponder). Any recommended vendors to get this from?

You'll need to get something like from DEI a 451m relay kit or buy 2 relays and wire them for a one wire doorlock system so you can get the keyless to work properly.

As far as online vendors, nope. Don't know of any that I'd trust.
