Rough Idle

96 Lumina 3.1 has been running rough at idle.
It will almost stall while sitting at a light. P300 misfire code. Put some LUCAS Fuel injector cleaner in and the light goes after after a day or so. It helps it at idle too..Also car smells like its running rich.

Could this be an Oxg sensor causing the rich smell?
Any ideas? I will have to bring it into the dealer soon,
its getting slowly worst. I think they may want to clean the throttle body as they mentioned that to me last year

thanks
Nick

Re: Rough Idle

A scan will show fuel trims that will tell you if it is running rich, also check for fuel inside the fuel presssure regulator hose.

Re: Rough Idle

I am going to end up bringing it to the dealer I guess.
I have no way of testing anything, amazingly it runs much better if I add some fuel injection cleaner when I get gas,
I love that dodge, when I was a kid, a family near me used to race all the old dodges...Great memories

Alternator Wine or Power Steering Pump

OK, plymouth/dodge, same beat, great with a HEMI or a wedge.
Never liked the push button transmission though
Let me ask another question, my Lumina is making quite a wineing sound, i think its the power steering pump, been doing for about 5 months, seems to be getting louder...How can I verify its the power steering pump? Spay some 40 on the pulley?

thanks
Nick

Re: Rough Idle

No, remove the belt, see if the noise goes away.

Re: Rough Idle

If the rough idle continues after you've checked everything, one more thing can be wrong. The Brake Boster can be leaking when you have your foot on the brake. Does it idle better if your foot is off the brake?

Re: Rough Idle

I added my late comment in the event that someone new was having the same problem. If they researched the thread, they'd see the comment. Isn't that the reason for saving all of the old postings?

The forum likes to see threads inactive for more than 90 days go to " sleep". We encourage a new thread that will attract attention.

Re: Rough Idle

Well then I would suggest that after 90 days, the thread be removed from the website.
