86 S10 blazer noises

The mom called me today askin for some help with her 86 s10 blazer. 2.8, 5spd, 4WD. She explained it as a whirring type noise, that almost sounds like an owl hoot I called her crazy and went to check things out a little bit. She was right, its not a normal noise. The noise is associated with RPMs, not driving speed or the gear it is/is not in. I just hit it a little over half throttle to get the noise to start, and it goes down with RPMs. and if i keep it about half throttle it will just keep the noise goin, and it gets louder as the RPMs go up. BUT, the noise can only be heard inside... i laid underneath it and put my face DANGEROUSLY close to the fan in an attempt to find the location on the noise but couldn't hear anything. It feels like its driving as it always has, but just makes a weird noise. kinda sounds like theres a slight exhaust leak that i heard while laying underneath it. Any info would be great. Any questions that would be able to help you make a guess are welcomed. Thanks in advance

It sound almost like a noise that you get through the radio. Do you know if it was turned on or not?

def not a radio noise... initially turned the volume down, then just took the face off the radio and still has the noise. i doubt it would have anything to do with it, but i just changed the heater core in the thing about 3 days ago. i really wish i could get a sound clip or something of it. haha thanks for the response
