shift knob

my car came with a blue Razo knob, you know one of those that cost like 70 bucks, anyway i later got a basic red leather knob that matched everything else in the car but it only cost like 10 bucks and its cheap. Now I want to go with a red Razo knob or one like it. I found my old blue one and tried to put it on but it wouldn't fit. Since i got the car i've had a short shifter and different shift boot put on. When i tried to put the blue one on to see how it would look, feel, work etc., the shift boot wouldn't go down anymore therefore not giving the knob enough room to go down to fit. Any suggestions?

There should be a plastic ring on the inside of the shift boot, you can take it out but your shift boot won't stay up where it used too.

Oh, the shift boot i have is black with red stiching and i think i remember reading somewhere that its the type-R boot. Any truth to this?

Its not gonna fall down all that far because the material won't let it I don't have one on my shifter it just sits a little low. I don't know about the shift boot though
