Code P1151

This is an update to the previous thread I started entitled Cracked Ignition Coil.
I have a 2002 Ford Taurus SES with the 3.0L OHV Vulcan engine.
Last night, while backing up in a parking lot, I felt a surge of power from the engine, as if the car wanted to take off. On the way home, my check engine light came on. I had the code read this morning and it is P1151. It has something to do with Bank 2 sensor 1 switching. I am assuming it is talking about my oxygen sensor. Does anyone have any more information about this trouble code and what might be causing it. My symptoms while driving are an intermittent loss of power and an intermittent miss, yet no trouble codes are being set for a misfire. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I am about to the point of taking it to the dealership and letting the tell me what is wrong.

I just got through checking the fuel pressure at idle and it started around 48psi and eventually dropped to 42 psi. After shutting the car off it stayed at 42 psi. According to my Haynes manual, the fuel pressure should be 50-56 psi with the engine running and 45-56 psi with the engine off and the key on. Does anyone know if these numbers are inline with the Factory Service Manual? Sometimes the Haynes info is erroneous.

Re: Code P1151

The Haynes manual fuel pressure specs agree with the FSM for your 2002. I'm not sure your meter would be accurate enough to suggest there is a significant problem with your fuel pressure. Just out of curiosity though, when was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Below are the listed likely suspects for the P1151:
  • Electrical:
    • Short to VPWR in harness or HO2S
    • Water in harness connector
    • Open/Shorted HO2S circuit
    • Corrosion or poor mating terminals and wiring
    • Damaged HO2S
    • Damaged PCM
  • Fuel System:
    • Excessive fuel pressure
    • Leaking/contaminated fuel injectors
    • Leaking fuel pressure regulator
    • Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel
    • Vapor recovery system
  • Induction System:
    • Air leaks after the MAF
    • Vacuum Leaks
    • PCV system
    • Improperly seated engine oil dipstick
  • EGR System:
    • Leaking gasket
    • Stuck EGR valve
    • Leaking diaphragm or EVR
  • Base Engine:
    • Oil overfill
    • Cam timing
    • Cylinder compression
    • Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2S(s)

I already have the new fuel filter and will be replacing it on Thursday.
