99 Ram 4X4 Intermediate shaft

Hello everyone,

I need to replace the intermediate shaft that connects the bottom of the steering column to the top of the steering box. I am wondering if I can get one from a 2000 2WD Ram 5.9L for my 99 Ram 318 4X4. They look identical, but I want to be sure. Thanks!

Good call, I checked Rock Auto and they gave me the same part number for both a 99 Ram 1500 318 and a 2000 Ram 1500 360. They didn't ask if it was 4WD or not. Not to be repetitive but does anyone know for sure if this sounds right? I have a chance to score the shaft fairly cheap from a 2000 2WD 5.9 but I want to be sure. I called the dealer and they were no help, the guy told me it won't work but could give me no reason why, I kinda doubt he even looked into it. Anyway any thoughts on this are appreciated.
Here is the part # from Rock Auto, it looks modified, maybe stronger than stock.
DORMAN Part # 425251

Check with another parts store...if both say the same part number, I'd say you're good to go.

They are the same 95 to 06. You pobably don't want to spend 300 bucks, but if you plan on keeping the truck, you might want to look into a Borgeson 950 shaft. I have one on mine and will never have to replace it again. The Dorman is just an OEM and no better.

You will not find one at any parts store and is a dealer part only.Make sure your wallet is full, not cheap.

Yes you can get them at a parts store! Any parts store that sells Dorman can order you one.

Re: 99 Ram 4X4 Intermediate shaft

I do not like most of the aftermarket stuff, made in China most of the time and dealer parts are better sometimes. Most aftermarket parts do not fit worth a crap and I have seen it with heater cores and evaporator cores so far.

Re: 99 Ram 4X4 Intermediate shaft

Dorman products are very good, I don't know where the shaft itself is made, but they have been around since 1918. And I can assure you that the Borgeson 950 shaft I suggested, is not made in China and is 100 times better than the OEm Dodge shaft that 'was' probably made in China.

Re: 99 Ram 4X4 Intermediate shaft

Chrysler probally did upgrades a number of times on them.Replaced one in my brother Scott's 1997 Dodge Dakota which was upgraded 5 times by Chrysler. If it is made in China,it is junk and the Chinese build junk
