97 Cavalier wont start after freeze
My 97 cavalier (2.2) will not start after the temperature fell to -8 last week. It reached 60 degrees yesterday but still wont start. I needed to replace the fuel filler hoses that had a rusted hole in it, which I did yesterday. There is fuel running to the fuel pump sensor. The fuel pump relay switch and fuse are fine. The tank is half full. I will be checking the spark plugs today. Does anyone have any other ideas. Thanks

Re: 97 Cavalier wont start after freeze
If the spark plug wires are old you could change them out. This was my experiance (97 cavalier) not long ago. It would crank away but never start. It was a progressive problem until it would not start.

Re: 97 Cavalier wont start after freeze
could also be flooded if you tried to start it continuously. Really need to see what the plugs look like but before that I would check for spark with a spark tester. If thats good pull the plugs and see if they are wet with fuel. I see the first part of your screename is "chi", wouldnt happen to live in Chicago would you?

Re: 97 Cavalier wont start after freeze
The spark plug wires are fine but there is no fuel on the spark plugs. I'm hoping its not the fuel pump. If the lines were frozen, I am assuming they should be unfrozen by now due to the relative mild tempuratures and being inside the garage. I did not hear the fuel pump engage when turning the ignition key half way nor did I hear it inside the fuel filler line. Any other suggestions? I appreciate the responses and yes I was born and raised in
Chi Town. |
