2001 2500 HD transmission issue

8.1 liter 4x4 crew cab with allison transmission. 140k miles
this winter, after the cold set in, my transmission has had to warm up for 15 minutes before it would shift properly. If it doesn't warm up it will go into reverse, but when its put into drive it slips until the rpm's are over 2k then shifts in hard, but slips out at 5mph. after this it won't go into reverse. shut the truck off and wait a minute and it will repeat all this ~~~ unless its warmed up, then it shifts and drives fine.
is this a sticking valve? or something else. i changed the spin on and internal filters and found no metal or sludge. Anybody heard of this before and have an idea? or do i just need to have the transmission rebuilt? thanks for any help.

Re: 2001 2500 HD transmission issue

I just had the same thing happen to my 2001 2500 HD with a 8.1 liter. I had the Neutral Safety Switch replaced and everything is now working.
