rear tire quit turning/abs light came on

Can anyone tell me what happened. I left my driveway and didn't have much rear control on my car in the snow and ice. Decided to return home and another driver followed me and told me my rear tire was not turning. My ABS light also came on. Am I looking at costly repairs? Nice start to Christmas....

Welcome to the AF. If you would, it would be greatly helpful to us responders and readers to know all of your vehicle specifics like year, engine, body,etc., for us to hopefully give you more specific help.

I can only generalize and speculate and only offer possibilities and ask questions. Your wheel may have literally frozen with ice. Your brake may be stuck, again possibly weather related or not. Did you use the e brake prior? That too could stick and not release. The wheel bearing seized. Don't think the ABS ould cause this, but it obviously can detect this problem. I can't imagine something got jammed inbetween things while parked to keep it from rolling. You'll just have to do some detective work to see what's going on. I seem to recall hearing of folks having to use torches to melt loose brake drums in the severe cold, or I'm just imagining things. Sorry to hear the Grinch stole your Christmas cheer.

I'm with Tripletdaddy on this, I'd suspect your parking brake froze (if you used it), either due to rust or due to water getting in to the cable assembly.
