Replacing heated seats element

I have a 2001 SE that I guess that both seat elements are bad. You press the button and it stays on for a sec or two then turns off. Has anybody done these before? Any help would be greatly appreciated as its getting a little cold in Michigan.

Re: Replacing heated seats element

Hi - I have the same issue with my 2001 Lesabre and I believe it is the heating pad that is bad. The Pass seat heats good, just the Dr. side does as you described, the light comes on then goes off shortly. I have swapped the controller under the seats from side to side with no change in results. Has anyone done a heating pad replacement? Who is the heating pad supplier or any ideas where I can get a replacement pad?

Re: Replacing heated seats element

most likely broken wire in the heater element, usually cushion, quick check is to use ohmeter/continuity tester on the seat heater connector under seat. some styles are connected in series....more on that if you want to know where to check....but..if they are "sewn-in" heaters, you'll have to find the wire break, pull cover up or off, open padding and repair it (resolder wire), etc etc. or slap in a set of aftermarkets under the original sewn in ones and live with decreased heat up time and performance, although some trim shops will sew in a new heater...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ but if you're game it's easy to fix

Re: Replacing heated seats element

I believe that they connected in a series cause they both act exactly the same. My guess would be the driver side thats bad. So any in depth knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated because I can fix the wire, I just don't have any idea how to find it.
