Subaru WRX McRea/Grist

I have been working on this car for about 6 months now but not detailing, waiting to get money to finish it as I want to place Luxon LED's into all the front lights.

Headlights drilled for LED's

Lightpod drilled to suit LED's

Waiting for paint

It's nice to see other cars being lit up and this is a great project to do so with. Are you going to do the rear lights at all?

KevHw yes I will be lighting up both ends and may even try for the co-driver map light BUT no promises on that one.

Re: Subaru WRX McRea/Grist

1. before you prime the shell do you sand the shell what grade paper?
2. what paint do you use for the subaru blue ?
3. when you put on decals do you seal with a lacker?
4 brush on lacker or spray on lacker?

Re: Subaru WRX McRea/Grist

Irishrally in answer to your questions & I can only tell U wot I do hopefully some of the others will give U some ideas as well.

1. No I don't sand it before painting BUT I do wash it in warm soapy water and let it air dry for 24 hrs.

2. I paint it with gray primer BUT depending on the colour I also use white primer. I have the Subaru Blue made up for me at a paint supplier so it's the right colour blue (don't trust auto shop rattle cans).

3. After place the decals on the body and depending on whether or not the car has been dirtied up I coat the body in future floor shine for its final coat and to hold the decals in position, if U have place any sort of detailing as far as grime goes don't polish the body and if U have put future floor shine on it, it doesn't need it anyway, that's what I have found.

4. If I where U I'd use only a floor polish a it brings up a good shine and as I saif before it doesn't need polishing like other laquer, enamel or acryl based polishes.

The above is only my opinion and if there are others please feel free to add, contradic or change them in any way.

Re: Subaru WRX McRea/Grist

Irishrally, I'll help you as much as I can but I must let you know that I'm an Aussie so when it comes to building Irish stuff I'm way out of my league as for any WRC cars I'll help as much as I can OK. I build any WRC cars and I like building ARC cars as well. ARC stands for Australian Rally Championship and I only do the outside of cars as I can be bothered with tricking up all the insides of them either.
