Need 2000 Blazer s10 4x4help

I had daughters s10 outside started to warm up. Very cold here in Boston with also getting hit with 2 snow storms over the weekend. Well I opened the door and started to hear a grinding like someone trying to restart the car (starter grind). Well shut off the car and re started it lasted about 15 seconds and again the starter grinding. The ignition key feels kinda funny. I sprayed some wd40 in key hole an still trying to restart itself and grinding the starter. Well I started to take off the key covering and part of the dash. Got to where I needed the Opposite torx tool so I kinda gave up. I tried to restart the car and it held this time for about 5 minuted and no problem. Had to give daughter a ride to store and came back to try starting the car and again it seems to work ok. I reassembled everything back. Car is starting fine no starter grind. Well the ignition switch seems funny when turning but know seems ok. Maybe the wd40 helped but for how long?

Need to add something I was just told that now the 4x4 will not work. The light will come on for the 4x4 and then go off and the location for when the car is in drive 1 2 or 3 will not light park reverse and drive 3 will but not drive 1 and drive 2. Its blue lit in color. Can all this happen with the suspicion of the Ignition Switch going bad?

1 Would this sound like the ignition switch is going bad?
2 Would a new key be needed for the car.
3 where is best place to buy one?
4 any good pictures to replace a 2000 s10 ign. sw?

Merry xmas to all

Look in the How to/Technical section of the blazer forum it has a write up for ignition switch replacement.

Not sure if that is your problem, hopefully someone will chime in on that.

Possibly the lock cylinder is worn??? (The ignition switch is located on top of the steering column a few inches away from the lock cylinder.) Also, does this vehicle have an aftermarket alarm or remote starter on it?

There is no alarm or remote starter in the car. The car has been fine for the past 2 days. Maybe water or ice got into the starter. We did have a lot of snow and rain and sleet Last Friday and Sunday.

thanks for the replys
