2002 Cav. 80/100km starts shaking a bit

Hey again everyone! Merry Christmas to everyone that celebrates!

Ok now, On my way to work today I noticed that my Cav starts to shake a bit when I get up to 80km and gets a bit rougher when I'm doing 100/110km.

It just dumped snow here and has been cold...but for some reason I'm thinking it's something else. Mainly because about a week ago when I turned my wheels(forget which way) there was a slight noise, nothing really noticeable. Kind of like a click noise. The car has been fine since that day and hasn't done anything wrong and hasn't done a thing when I get going on the high way. Always nice and smooth.

So, anyone have any thoughts? Could it be the cold and snow?

Thanks again. Catch you soon.

Re: 2002 Cav. 80/100km starts shaking a bit

Might have lost a wheel weight.
Might have snow/ice caked inside wheels
If there was ever water/condensation inside it could have froze sticking somewhere.

could be a lot of stupid things.

Check your tire pressure, for if its low you could have a radial shift on a low tire. The other would be a warped rotor. Although you said there is a click when turning. So Cv joint and or wheel bearing. You should be able to tell what wheel it is coming from if you drive in an empty lot and drive in
Circles. Cv and Bearings are quite noticeable. Wish you luck

Re: 2002 Cav. 80/100km starts shaking a bit

I asked(finally got a hold of two days after) an uncle that works at a dealership and he said it was just snow/ice built up on the wheels. Aluminum wheels are known for this and the extra weight was throwing them off. I got rid of the build up and left for work in the morning and it seemed to stop.

I also mentioned the noise I heard so he got in and we went for a spin around the circle he lives on and there wasn't anything. He just told me that if I hear it again, bring it by the shop and he'll check it out and fix it...if it is anything needing repair.

Tire pressure was the first thing I checked. All were good.

Well, I'm happy nothing got warped or broken. I'll keep you updated if anything happens again.

Thanks for the replies...MERRY CHRISTMAS! Or, Hanukkah; Kwanzaa; Holidays; etc...

Great to here. Hope all goes well for you. I live in a very cold part of canada and have not had that problem yet. Always good to learn. Merry christmas.

Re: 2002 Cav. 80/100km starts shaking a bit

I have a 2000 LS, and I've had a similar problem.

I hit the highway and as soon as I got up to 40MPH, the car started to shake wildly. I got a hold of a garage (Belle-Tire) and they said it could be ice/snow in the wheels, throwing them off balance. I took my car in and had them rebalance the wheels and make sure the tire pressures were all good. (They didn't even charge me! Merry Christmas, huh?)

I hit the highway again, but this time it starts shaking at 70MPH+. This isn't just some light shaking, either. My car vibrates wildly as if I was driving on a road covered in large rocks and pot-holes.

A friend said something about possibly being ball-joints or tie-rods.

This is how things went in the beginning. My car was driving just fine, and I was going about 80+ MPH without any shaking. One day, the plows practically bury my car, wedging snow underneath it. I had a hell of a time getting out of that crap-hole. After that, my car started this crazy shaking phenomenon.

Re: 2002 Cav. 80/100km starts shaking a bit

I would try putting it in the garage and use a propane heater and thaw it out.
I had this happen during a thaw and freezing rain. I paid a gas station to park it in his heated garage over night. This solved my problem. If this doesn't work
rotate each tire and look for a bolt in the tire. Next go to an alignment shop and have it checked. I doubt you will do it yourself without a heated garage.
