Question 97 Rodeo accelerator cable

There seems to be a piece of rubber/plastic at the very end of the accelerator cable right before it reaches the throttle. This piece of rubber/plastic is mangled and stuck the to the accelerator cable. It is causing the cable to bind and sometimes not open the throttle then sometimes not allow it to close.

My question is how difficult is it to replace this cable and is it necessary? is there anything I can do to get the rubber/plastic off of the cable and lube it so it does not bind?

Thank you

Chris

A little frightening when it sticks, eh?! Most just take that little melted dust boot off, clean the cable really well, lube the cable with some white lube, and drive troublefree for many more miles.

Thumbs up Re: 97 Rodeo accelerator cable

So I can just clean the cable instead of replacing? That is great news!

Anything you recommend to clean/lube the cable?

Anything I should stay away from?

Thanks again for everyone's help here.

Re: 97 Rodeo accelerator cable

Personally I would use some ronsonol lighter fluid to clean it with but thats just because I have some and use it all the time to clean off sticky stuff. Not that I recommend using lighter fluid around an engine LOL. Goo gone, mineral spirits, alcohol, whatever you have on hand should be ok to wipe down as much as you can. Then just use a little light oil down the end and work it back and forth to get rid of the remaining stickiness.
