Thumbs up Thankyou and Intro!

G'day Fellas!

I've been building cars for just over 8 months now, but I didn't ever know there this sort of wealth of information on the net!!!

Thankyou to Shen Rong (synsr??) for introducing me to this forum

Anyway!!! this is what I started with that I now know is wrong

- body painted without priming
- no polishing
- not using clear glue... (I realised on my last 2 cars and I just used pvc glue.. works okay and dries clear!)

I've learned alot about polishing etc, and I was just about to start a ferrari enzo thinking my cars were good.

Anyway here are the cars that I've built, but being a student with no digicam I have no photos. I'm also in Australia (Sydney if anyones interested) and we have to deal with crappy exchange rates (i.e it costs me alot to build cars.. luckily if you divide price over hours spent its relatively cheap)

1. Tamiya Porsche 911 Taisan spec (I spent a long time detailing EVERYTHING and it turned out nice, which is why im hooked.. didn't know about decal softeners so the large decals still have air bubbles in them)

2. Celica safari rally... I didn't have any skills to paint a fully white model,so this took me forever and a day to build and I just gave up.

3. Wersteiner CLK DTM (same as Tamiya, engine detail on GT cars are boring!)

4. metal plated s2000 (I will never buy metal plated again... good first try at panel lines though (all other cars were black) )

5. Porsche GT3 metal plated (I bought metal plated again, this time it was a lot nicer, I learnt how to glue clear parts, panel lines and I'm very proud of this one...)

In progress

Fujimi Porsche 928 GT (primed)

Ferrari Enzo (to be my long term special project, careful care, perfect clear glass, polished body, detailed engine and my first use of CF decals, just waiting on some micro sol stuff)

I have a couple of rules that I use on myself to keep costs down that might help other aspiring modellers.

- don't buy it unless I absolutely need it
- build one car at a time and enjoy it... it's not a race!
- read the faq! its damn useful... now I know how to polish and do window frames on car bodies!
- buy one car at a time!
- invest in good brushes but down buy from over priced hobby stores, try craft stores (don't pay over $3.50 per brush I reckon)

Anyway...

Hi!!!

I see that you found your way here!
Lots of tips in this forum and nice cars that will make you break the rule of buying one car at a time

WELCOME, WELCOME!

Glad to hear you have picked up some useful pointers already.

I think your rules are sensible, but your rule no.1:

'don't buy it unless I absolutely need it'

Is not gonna keep costs down!!
:hehehe:

I used to abide by similar rules, then got addicted:bonghitte and the rules went out the window!!

Look forward to seeing your work.
