Help! Car won't go into gear

This is my first post.. and I need some major help. My car (sebring conv jxi) wont go into gear. The floor gear switch will move back and forth but it's not going into gear. When it finally does go into gear, you drive it for like 5 seconds, and then it just rolls back. It slips back into neutral.. what in the world is going on? Please help!!
